As an AFS developer, I also agree this is the right way to go.  And I would 
expect to see us beginning to include Kerberos dependencies in the 
not-too-distant future.

Of course, this would be a lot easier if the two major Kerberos 
implementations our users are likely to want to use could agree on how the 
API is supposed to work, so my code doesn't have to be filled with IFDEF's 
to handle the (sometimes non-obvious) differences.
