scp principle?

I have Openssh 3.0.1 compiled with kerberos 1.2.3.  ssh works fine authenticating with the kerberos password but scp fails.  I know authentication is by the host/server at realm principle and there is a separate principle for ftp, but is there a particular principle for scp?
