Subject: Opportunity From Patty Limerick and The Center of the American West
[https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/images/cleardot.gif]Dear Professor Ritvo:
I write to call to your attention a promising opportunity for early-career historians.
The Center of the American West is now offering a fellowship for a person with a recent Ph.D., specializing in Western American Studies and interested in experimenting with the enterprise of bringing scholarly understandings to a wider audience.
As you know, concern about the future of the discipline of history in higher education has been mounting. The Center’s fellowship takes that concern head-on, offering a chance for a talented scholar to become immersed in our world of “applied history” and to find her or his own “voice” for public communications. Equally important, our Visiting Fellow will gain practice in the pursuit of funding to support enterprises in bringing historical perspective to bear on current Western dilemmas.
A successful candidate for this position will sharpen existing skills and cultivate new ones in a way that will make navigation in the changing world of the profession of history considerably more manageable. Just as important, getting to know and work with specialists in the wide range of disciplines at the Center of the American West will deliver a notable advantage in working in the interdisciplinary world of the twenty-first century. Attached you will find a complete position description that you may pass along to interested candidates.
Please contact me—303-492-4879, or pnlimerick at centerwest.org<mailto:plimerick at centerwest.org> —if I can answer any questions you might have.
Yours,
Patricia Nelson Limerick
Faculty Director and Chair of the Board of the Center of the American West
