Department Head and Professor, Science and Technology Studies, Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute

 

The  Department  of  Science  and  Technology  Studies  at  Rensselaer
Polytechnic  Institute  in  Troy,  NY invites applications, expressions of
interest, andnominations for the position of Department Head. The Department
Head  will  hold  a  full-.AN-$B!>(Btime,  tenured  faculty  appointment  at
the  rank  of  Professor.  Theposition may commence as early as September 1,
2012, but shall remain open until filled.

 

The Department of Science and Technology Studies, located within the School
of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at Rensselaer, is one of the oldest
and mostinternationally recognized departments of its kind.   The
department   offers   graduate   degrees   in   STS   through   the
doctoral   level   and   threeundergraduate    degrees:   Science,
Technology,   and   Society;   Sustainability    Studies;   and   Design,
Innovation, and Society. 

 

The Department Head provides leadership and long-N-$B!>(Bterm planning while
directing the academic, operational,  and  budgetary  activities  of the
department.  The Department  Head  will  be  expected  to foster creative
and deliberative  processes  with the department.FN"s  fifteen faculty
members  in order to refine andadvance the vision and mission of this
interdisciplinary department.  

 

The successful candidate will have a strong record of scholarly achievement
in the interdisciplinary field of science and technology studies emblematic
of seniorprofessorial rank, outstanding leadership and administrative
skills,  and  a  clear  commitment   to  advancing  STS  as  an
intellectually   diverse  andconceptually  innovative  field  of  inquiry.
Candidates  must  be  eligible  for  tenure  and  must  minimally possess a
Ph.D., or foreign degree equivalent, in ScienceTechnology Studies or a
closely related field, and possess a nationally or internationally
recognized record of excellence in scholarship,  a sustained level of
highquality educational activities that go beyond teaching and advising, and
a sustained level of administrative and professional service.
