[GSC-HCA-Offcampus] Off-campus events and announcements: New Shuttle Line, Red Sox, Families

Dear fellow off-campus graduate students,

Starting next week, we can look forward to riding a new shuttle line
serving Inman Square, Union Square, and East Cambridge as a free service to
the MIT community. Please see below for details - this is a pilot program
with
 success depend
ing
on usage levels, so be sure to hop on and check out the shuttle whenever
you get a chance! Thanks to the GSC Transportation Subcommittee.

Other upcoming events are included below as well. As always, if you have a
suggestion for an event or an issue regarding off-campus life that could be
relevant for discussion with the GSC, please let us know. If you have an

1. New Shuttle Line!
When: Pilot program begins 9/3/2013
Where: Imman Square, Union Square and East Cambridge

Description: MIT Transportation and the GSC Transportation Subcommittee are
happy to announce the launch of a new Shuttle Line this Fall. The line will
serve Imman Square, Union Square and East Cambridge. It will run every 30
minutes on average on a daily basis. Hours of service will be 6 pm - 2:30
am on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and from 6 pm to 3:30 am on
Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The routing of the line can be found
attached.

At this point, this Shuttle Line is a pilot program. Its continuation in
2014 will depend on ridership numbers. So if you live in some of the areas
served by the new line and if you are interested in using the line in the
future, please consider using it as much as possible from September to
December. We need you to advocate in favor of the line in the future!

2. Evening at the Red Sox

Description: Meet up with fellow off-campus students for a night at
Fenway - Red Sox vs. Tigers
! GSC HCA off-campus has a limited number of tickets available, and will
randomly select from those on the signup sheet* and notify via email on
Friday, August 30th after 5pm. We will meet at the stadium.

*Sign-up does not guarantee a spot, but will enter you (or you+guest) into
the random selection process. 7 individual signups and 4 two-person signups
will be selected, with any cancellations filled out of the respective
signup list.

Description: - Background: MIT is searching for the next Vice President for
Information Systems and Technology (IS&T)!
- Benefits 1: Meet and work with MIT administers, faculties and staff and
learn about the high level leadership team at MIT
- Benefit 2: Interview potential candidates and provide your input on the
VP-IST position
- Benefit 3: Gain knowledge about the IS&T vision of support to the
academic and research mission
- Time commitment: 1 full day followed by a debrief session (date TBD).
