Hi everyone,

We hope the end of the semester is treating you well! Please enjoy our GSC
DEI Newsletter!

1. Open Positions within Different Committees

If you are interested in making an impact on MIT’s campus you should
consider applying to join one of the committees detailed below. Email GSC
VP (gsc-vp at mit.edu) to get involved.

1. Working group to "evaluate security at large campus events for students"
- 1 rep needed

The working group will have five to six meetings and will make
recommendations to Chancellor Nobles and Dean Nelson early in the spring
semester. The working group will review the working group charge,
deliverables, and timeline.

2. Campus Activities Complex Advisory Board - 1 rep needed

The Campus Activities Complex Advisory Board gives recommendations and
advice to the Director of the Campus Activities Complex. The Board
provides feedback on policy and program development as well as suggestions
for new and improved services and amenities that the CAC could provide for
the community. They will meet occasionally as needed.

3. Ad Hoc Committee on Graduate Professional Development - 2-3 reps needed*

The Ad Hoc Committee on Graduate Student Professional and Personal
Development will be charged with developing a set of graduate professional
and personal development requirements that all graduate students must
fulfill, constituting opportunities beyond the technical training and the
degree requirements of their disciplines. *Preference given to students
from all schools except School of Engineering.*

2. Graduate Student Council Survey Student Visa Application/Interview
Experience

The GSC External Affairs Board (EAB) is currently preparing a letter to the
Department of State to expedite the reinstatement of the domestic
renewal/revalidation services for nonimmigrant student visas. The EAB
recently met with the Assistant Director for International S&T Workforce,
Amy Nice, who informed us that this is a very active topic within the White
House. Part of the calculation now is to allocate the money for it. Our
letter will add the graduate student voice into the conversation, and
illustrate the importance of such a service. To that end, we are collecting
testimonials from international students on how the lack of such services
to renew their student visas within the country has impacted you all. We
are collecting them through the Google Form here
<https://mit.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=156ecccacf03a6376855ef479&id=9e38963596&e=a29cfc98d8>,
and you can find the draft letter here
<https://mit.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=156ecccacf03a6376855ef479&id=9add6a6802&e=a29cfc98d8>.
The survey should take no more than 5-10 minutes to fill out. The Carnegie
Mellon University Graduate Student Assembly has recently sent a letter to
the Department of State to address the long visa wait times for
nonimmigrant visas as well. You can find that letter here
<https://mit.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=156ecccacf03a6376855ef479&id=b8670daaf7&e=a29cfc98d8>
for reference. We have also flagged the letter to many of our Congressional
contacts, including the entire MA delegation. Please feel free to reach out
to our team at gsc-eab-fed at mit.edu if you have any questions!
