Janet Napolitano on "The Future of Science as Public Service"

- The event, hosted and moderated by President Susan Hockfield, will
take place at 4 pm in Kresge Auditorium.
- Since their inception in 1957, the Compton lectures have brought to our
campus leaders who are noted for their universality of thought and their
influence on human values. The title of Secretary Napolitano's lecture is
closely tied to the mission of MIT, which comprises a mandate to educate
our students in science, technology, and other areas of scholarship that
will serve the nation and the world in the 21st century.

2 What: Donation collection for Japanese Earthquake Relief
2 When: Monday March 14th through Friday the 18th
2 Where: Lobby 10

- A disastrous 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit northeastern Japan on Friday,
triggering a tsunami. There are over 1,000 reported deaths and at least
10,000 reported missing spread over six prefectures.
- Japan needs warm support from abroad. The Japanese Association of
MIT(JAM) will try our best to convey messages and donations from the
entire MIT community. JAM members will collect donations in Lobby 10
from Monday, Mar. 14 through Friday, Mar. 18th.
- The money will be used to provide the earthquake victims with shelters,
food, and clothing. It will also be used to help rebuild their homes and
restore their agricultural lands.
- The status of donations will be updated on the JAM website on a daily
basis: http://web.mit.edu/jam/www/.
- Both cash and checks (made payable to the Japanese Association of
MIT) will be accepted. Receipts will be issued upon request.

- All entrance fees will go directly to Birthday Wishes Charity

- Skate rentals are $8, so bring your own if you have them. We'll be
giving away prizes throughout the night, and the snack bar will be
open.

- Join the MIT Food and Agriculture Collaborative and Johnson & Wales
College of Culinary Arts for a celebration of food! This inaugural MITFAC
event will explore the problems with our current food system and showcase
the solutions that are being developed within the MIT community. Hear
sustainable food pioneer, chef, and author Michel Nishan discuss the role
each of us can play in rebuilding our nation's food system, learn what the
MIT community is doing to address some of the most pressing challenges
to our food system, and watch chefs fromJohnson & Wales College of
Culinary Arts demonstrate the art of cooking with sustainable ingredients,
and then taste their creations.

student may buy one guest ticket. There is no physical ticket; there
