*Help Select the Next Dean for Student Life*
Last Friday, the Dean for Student Life, Larry Benedict, announced his
retirement from MIT. The DSL is responsible for many aspects of campus
life, including DAPER, Housing, and Dining. For more information on the
Division of Student Life, please see http://web.mit.edu/dsl/
A search committee to identify a new Dean is being formed, and the GSC
has been asked to provide a graduate student to serve on this group.
We are currently soliciting applications to fill that slot (the expected
time commitment is until Spring 2008).
If you are interested, please submit a written statement of interest
(less than 1 page), along with your name, department, current year of
graduate study and contact info to the GSC Vice-President
(gsc-vice-president at mit.edu) by 11:59 pm this Fri, Oct 26th.

Preparing an Effective CV (for the Academic Job Search)

If you are searching for a faculty position or a postdoc, come and learn
more about preparing your CV and other materials typically used for an
academic job search. Co-presented by Dir. of the MIT Writing Center who
will offer advice on how to seek references and how to write effective
cover letters.

*Lemelson Prize - Call for Applications*
The Lemelson-MIT Program is currently accepting applications for the
$30,000 Lemelson-MIT Student Prize. Burgeoning inventors or innovators
who are graduate students or graduating seniors at MIT are eligible.
The application deadline is Dec 18th.
Interested students need to complete an online application
(web.mit.edu/invent/a-student.html), which includes a description of
his/her inventiveness while at MIT, two letters of recommendation, and
a current resume or CV. Questions can be directed to Lemelson-MIT Program
Officer at lemelson_awards at mit.edu. The winner will be announced at a
press conference the morning of Feb 27, 2008.

LUCE FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIP - APPLICATION DEADLINE NOV. 13, 2007

Open to graduate students (as well as undergrads), It places young scholars
from a wide variety of intellectual fields in 10-month internships in
selected countries in East and Southeast Asia. Past assignments have
included settings as diverse as an architect?s office, a newspaper, a
forestry project, a family planning center, a hospital and local government
agencies.
