*2008 Commencement Guest Speaker*

The 2008 Commencement Committee invites you to submit guest speaker
recommendations for MIT's commencement exercises. All members of the
MIT community are encouraged to submit names for the June 2008
Commencement Speaker. This speaker should be able to provide a cogent
and powerful perspective while also addressing issues of relevance to MIT.

Suggestions must be received no later than Tuesday, May 15, 2007. Please
email gsc-vice-president[at]mit[dot]edu with suggestions. Following
a review, the committee will submit a list to President Hockfield.

*DAPER Summer Fee of $40 Announced*

The Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation announced
a $40 fee for using its facilities this summer. This is the first time
DAPER has charged a separate summer fee in addition to the portion it
receives of the Student Life Fee, paid by all students during the
academic year.

See the article in Friday's Tech for more information:
www-tech.mit.edu/V127/N23/daper.html.

See the DAPER website for a justification of the fee:
web.mit.edu/athletics/www.

The GSC passed a resolution at its May General Council Meeting in opposition
to the fee, because it unfairly targets Graduate Students and because it
was approved with minimal student input.
