*Support the Specter/Harking Amendment*

As you read this, Congress is currently considering appropriations bills
for the 2007 fiscal year. The House and Senate appropriations bills for
Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (H.R. 5647 and S. 3708,
respectively) are about to be passed and would cut education funding by
over $1B! In fact, the President's proposed budget would cut over $7B!
Additionally, the proposed appropriations bill would include record
budget cuts for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which provides
funding for many graduate students in the form of grants and

fellowships. These cuts will affect all of us!

But all hope is not lost, Senators Specter and Harkin have offered an
amendment to this appropriations bill to restore funding by $7B. This
amendment has received bipartisan support, but has still not been
approved. That's where you come in:

Call your Senators and Representative to urge them to support the
Specter/Harkin Amendment!

*Please call the Capitol Switchboard, toll-free at 1-800-459-1887. They
can look up your representatives and then transfer you, free of charge.
