*EVENTS*

Orientation events are continuing, including a whale watch this Sunday
September 11 from 1:30pm--5:00pm.  Tickets are $10 for MIT students
and $15 for guests.  This event is open to all.


For first year students only, the GSC has obtained tickets to three
Boston Red Sox games at Fenway Park (Red Sox tickets are well known
to be the most expensive in baseball!)  The games:

Thursday September 15 - 7pm
Saturday September 17 - 7pm
Sunday   September 18 - 2pm

Tickets will be sold in the GSC Office, 50-220 (Walker), at these times:

Thursday September 8, 5pm--7pm
Friday   September 9, 10am--3pm
(if tickets still available) Monday September 12, 10am--2pm

There is a limit of one student ticket plus one guest ticket per person.
Ticket price will be between $25--30 for student tickets.


The GSC Orientation Committee is pleased to announce that the sixth annual
Graduate Student Volunteer Day (GSVD) will be held on Saturday, September
17, 2005 from 8:30am to 3pm.  Graduate Student Volunteer Day is an annual
part of the GSC orientation program that each year brings together over
150 graduate students and friends from around campus for a one-day
community service event.  For more details on the projects being offered
at this year's GSVD and to register for this fun and meaningful event,

*GRADUATE STUDENT NEWS*

The September-October 2005 issue of the Graduate Student News is now
posted on the GSN website:

http://gsn.mit.edu

All graduate students will now receive this, and every issue of the GSN
at their term address.  Copies will still be available on newsstands on
campus.

*GSC TASK FORCE ON HURRICANE KATRINA RESPONSE*

Last night at its September General Council Meeting, the Graduate Student
Council passed a resolution creating a task force to coordinate the
graduate student response to Katrina-related efforts.  The resolution was
sponsored by Albert S Wei, Representative, Course 11 (DUSP).

"Resolved, the GSC expresses the most sincere sympathy and condolences of
the MIT graduate student community to those people, cities, and
communities affected by Katrina, and GSC proposes to establish a Special
Taskforce on Hurricane Katrina Response in order to coordinate the
responses of the various graduate student organizations at MIT who have
expressed interest in supporting Katrina-related efforts."
