galib is distributed under a bsd-style open source license.  this means 
that you are free to do anything you want with the source code or 
binaries, so long as you include the copyright notice with any source 
or binary distribution of galib or derivative thereof.

for source and binary distributions, you must include the galib 
copyright notice.

for binary software that includes galib or is built using galib, you 
should include a notice in the 'about' box such as "This program uses 
the GAlib library of genetic algorithm components."

for publications that use galib, you should include a line in the 
credits such as "This research was performed using the GAlib C++ 
library.", or a line in the bibliography that refers to the GAlib web 
site http://lancet.mit.edu/ga/
