[galib] Compilation issues on Sun OS

I'm using Sun OS with gnu compiler. "make" fails at the following point:
---------------
libga.a is now up-to-date
cd examples; make
make: Fatal error in reader: makefile, line 31: Extra `:', `::', or `:='
on dependency line
Current working directory /home/anshukg/galib245/examples
*** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `all'
---------------

Could someone advise me how to address this issue?
