*Call for Campus Energy Project Proposals: Summer and Fall 2007*

The Campus Energy Task Force of the MIT Energy Initiative (aka "Walking the
Talk") is calling for proposal submissions from students working on projects
related to MIT's campus energy and environmental footprint. This call is for
activities for summer and fall 2007.

*Proposal submissions should be made via e-mail to Steve Lanou (slanou at mit.edu)
in the Environmental Programs Office.*

*Timeline:*

The deadline for summer proposals and fall pre-proposals is *May 15th. *There
will be a second opportunity for submission towards the end of the summer
'07 for the fall term, but pre-proposals providing a detailed description of
the project are requested by *May 15th*.

Summer proposals will be awarded by *June 1st 2007*.

*Grant goals:*

Proposed projects should support the objectives of the Campus Energy Task
Force including promoting campus sustainable energy and environmental
practices and advancing the broad objectives of the MITEI to actively engage
students in the initiative.

*Grant limits and scope:*

Grants can be for up to $1,000 and average grant amounts will be ~ $500.
These grants are intended to provide resources for equipment purchases,
programmatic costs, printing and other related expenses. Because of the size
of these grants, they may be considered as development support for projects
that may expand to larger efforts requiring further resources in the future.
They are not intended to pay individuals but could be a complement to Campus
Sustainability UROPs or other research and employment opportunities.

*Proposal criteria:*

Proposals should be no more than *one or two pages* and describe details
including:

· Individuals involved in the project (course, year)

· Goals of project

· Approach

· Expected deliverables & outline of "shareable results"

· Impact of project on campus energy and environmental footprint

· Potential to engage wider MIT community

· Proposed budget outlining funds required

*Proposal review*:

A review committee of 1 faculty, 1 administrator and 4 students (2 grad & 2
undergrad) will review proposals and score them on merits of impact,
community engagement potential, educational opportunity, and cost
effectiveness.

*Requirements of award:*

A post-project report will be required upon completion of the term in which
the grant was awarded. This project report will outline results of the
project, itemized spending account and opportunities for potential project
continuation and expansion.
