Title:			Energy Policy-A UK Perspective.
Speaker: 		Dr. Phil Ruffles, Chair of the Royal Academy of 
					Engineering Policy Committee and of the Study of Energy 				in the 
UK; former Engineering and Technology Director of 				Rolls Royce plc

The talk will cover three areas as follows:

1. An overview of UK Energy policy as presented in the UK Government 
white paper published in Feb 2003 and subsequent developments leading 
to the current Government Review announced on 29th November 2005.

2. An overview of the Royal Academy of Engineering report on The Cost 
of Generating Electricity.

3. The findings of a series of Seminars held by the Royal Academy of 
Engineering on different aspects of Energy policy which are due to be 
published at about the time of the lecture.

Bio:
Dr. Ruffles is a former vice president of The Royal Academy of 
Engineering (UK), was chairman of its Engineering Policy Committee 
until the end of 2005 and is the chairman of its Energy Steering group. 
He was formerly a main board Director of Rolls-Royce plc until his 
retirement in 2001 and was responsible for the company’s Engineering 
and Technology activities in its Aerospace, Marine and Energy markets.  
Dr. Ruffles is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Royal 
Society, The Royal Aeronautical Society and the Institution of 
Mechanical Engineers. He has been awarded Honorary Doctorates of 
Engineering by Bristol, Birmingham, and Sheffield Universities.  Dr. 
Ruffles has served on a number of UK government bodies including the 
Defence Scientific Advisory Council, Technology Foresight and the 
Council of the Central Laboratory Research Councils.
