Dear Colleagues,
As you may have read by now, the Sandbox Innovation Fund Program (Sandbox), based at SoE in partnership with the MIT Innovation Initiative, officially launched this morning.
The skinny: Grounded in education, Sandbox is a non-competitive opportunity open to all 11,000 of MIT’s students. It is also designed to integrate with related activities and programs throughout the campus. The initial participants came from the StartMIT program; the next application period (again, open to all students) will be in March. You can direct interested undergrads and graduate students to the website in the meantime.
We would be grateful if you could help get the word out. With that in mind, the following might be useful…
- News Story: http://news.mit.edu/2016/mit-sandbox-invites-students-to-innovate-0125
- Website: http://sandbox.mit.edu<http://sandbox.mit.edu/>
- Video Q&A with Dean Waitz: https://youtu.be/BWD4ezZl7CY<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWD4ezZl7CY>
- FAQ (primarily intended for RD, but serves as a great backgrounder). Attached.
- Sandbox ‘mark’ and photos are available upon request.
For sharing on social (the news story, video, or the website would all be good links)…
> Come play in the Sandbox. Open to all MIT students. Any discipline. Every school. #MITSandbox [link]
> Have a good idea? Dig into Sandbox for seed money, mentorship, and community. #MITSandbox [link]
In addition, we would be happy to arrange for local presentations about Sandbox. Executive Director Jinane Abounadi is willing to give informal talks and host a Q&A with any DLC/group. (Or we can provide you with slides and other materials if that works better.)
Finally, publicity efforts for Sandbox will continue in the coming weeks and months. For example, Dean Waitz has authored an editorial about the origins of Sandbox for a future issue of MIT Faculty News. Sandbox will also host future events, student socials, and other activities.
Thanks in advance for your help and feel free to get in touch with any questions.
Best,
Michael
