Hi all - at our last meeting, a question about the early retirement supplement came up and I promised to get back to you all with the detailed answer. Please see below.
About the Early Retirement Supplement
You are eligible for the ERS if you were a member of MIT's Retirement Plan for Staff Members before July 1, 1989 and will have at least 20 years of service with MIT when you retire. The ERS adds an extra amount to your monthly pension if you retire from MIT between your 60th birthday and the July 1st on or after your 65th birthday. The actual amount depends on your age when you leave MIT. The maximum ERS is $625 per month for retirement at age 60, reducing by about $10 per month until it reaches zero. Any ERS payable to you will be included in your monthly pension and paid for your lifetime.
If you are eligible, the PensionConnect system will recognize it and you will see the calculation in your retirement benefit. If you have concerns, call the MIT Pension Service Center at 1-855-464-8736 (855-4MITPEN) Hope this helps.

Subject: [Editors] MIT Editors' Club Minutes: Sept. 2013
MIT EDITORS' CLUB
*Meeting Notes from September 10, 2013*
About 25 people attended this first meeting of the semester---and it was raining out! (As a result, I was expecting just a handful of folks.) Perhaps word is spreading that my minutes only report on a fraction of what goes on at the meetings--you really have to be there to get the Full Experience. Among the topics bandied about at this meeting:
*Quozio*
This is a fun web-based app that turns quotes into "images"---quite useful for social-media posts. Go to quozio.com<http://quozio.com> for more info. (BTW, Stephanie Hatch of Communication Production Services used Quozio to help illustrate part of MIT's Pinterest page.)
*Fall Workshops*
Communication Production Services is offering five new workshops this fall--four on social media, and a fifth on email marketing. Go to the following link for subjects and registration: http://commtoolkit.mit.edu/events/upcoming-events
*From the Labs*
Several folks reported on news from or about their centers/labs. For example:
--The Materials Processing Center just unveiled its new web site. Check it out at: mpc-www.mit.edu<http://mpc-www.mit.edu>
--The SocioTechnical Systems Research Center just began its annual seminar series. The next talk in the series is September 18. The topic? Systems Approaches to Managing Toxic Air Pollution. Go to the following site for more information: http://ssrc.mit.edu/news-and-events
*MIT Freebies/Discounts*
This topic comes up about three times a year, which makes the minutes easier to write because I can cut and paste what I've written in the past. This time, however, folks brought up some new freebies that I've now added to the following list of discounts available to MIT employees.
Among the MANY goodies offered through the MIT Activities Committee (go to <http://web.mit.edu/mitac/mmo.html>):
--10-30 percent off BOSE products (you have to phone them first at the number on the MITAC page).
--~10 percent off a Ford
--Free admission to the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston (this one is sponsored by the Council for the Arts at MIT). Go to http://arts.mit.edu/tickets/ica/
MIT Information Services & Technology also offers some great deals:
--Lynda.com<http://--Lynda.com>. We've discussed this site before, but it's well worth re-mentioning. It's packed with tutorials about techie communications stuff ranging from web design to iPhoto. And, it's free for MIT employees. Simply go to: http://ist.mit.edu/services/training/lynda
--free hosting of Drupal Cloud, a content management system for your web sites. Go to the following article by Our Own Robyn Fizz of IS&T for more information: <http://ist.mit.edu/news/drupal_cloud>.
The MIT Music Library has a free service for converting analog files (like old LPs and movies) to digital. Note for time management: keep in mind that a two-hour movie will take...two hours to digitize.
*Thank you!*
Thanks to Communication Production Services for hosting this meeting. I think the central location of their office was part of what drew such a crowd to this meeting.
*Next Meetings*
The next meetings of MIT Editors' Club are as follows. All meetings are from 12-1.

W98-302 (Resource Development)
Thursday, November 14

Cheers,
Elizabeth
