Hi Jennifer,
I'm not an expert, but since the MIT150 Open House was open to the public, and if your images do not intrude upon anyone's privacy, I believe you are fine to use the images in your publication. It's good practice to get a blanket release form signed by the event organizers before hand. More from MIT Publishing Services Bureau:
"Note that journalistic use of photographs does not require permission of the subject. Permission is required in marketing and communications materials because this implies endorsement by the subject of the photo."

Subject: [Editors] photo permissions question - MIT 150 Open House
Hi all,
We've got some great photos taken at the MIT 150 Open House that we'd
like to use in our lab's annual print magazine.
However, I'm not sure if there were any mechanisms in place letting
attendees know that they (and, more importantly, their children) could
be photographed and that these images could be used in a publication -
either in print or on-line.
All to say, I'm not sure whether I'm actually allowed to use these
great photos. I emailed the Open House organizers, but haven't heard
back yet, and am not sure if they are still around now that
festivities are over.
If anyone has any thoughts, ideas, or specific information about this,
I'd be grateful to hear them!
Many thanks,
Jennifer
