Hello-
As many of you are aware, the Publishing Services Bureau was phased out this past Friday. I’ll be managing the newly formed Communication Production Services (CPS) group, which officially launches today, and wanted to give you an update on staffing and services.
CPS was created to support MIT’s communications project needs and includes some of the advising services previously provided by PSB, as well as MIT CopyTech Centers and our reference publications efforts.
Here is a brief outline of some of the services CPS will provide. You can also visit our website for more details: http://web.mit.edu/cps
-Advising on communications projects
We offer advising on strategy and planning for web and print communications projects through our Communications Advising Group. This group provides some of the services previously provided by PSB, including initial project consultation, vendor referrals, and assistance with RFP preparation and print specs. The main difference is that advisors will be most heavily engaged at the start of a project and will no longer be involved once the job is awarded to vendors.
This group includes staff many of you know and have worked with over the years: Communications Strategist Bara Blender (bblender at mit.edu<mailto:bblender at mit.ecu>), Communications Coordinator Emer Garland-Scott (emer at mit.edu<mailto:emer at mit.edu>) and Communications Advisor Tom Pixton (tpixton at mit.edu<mailto:tpixton at mit.edu>). Our group email is cps at mit.edu<mailto:cps at mit.edu>.
-Advising on social media and email marketing
The Communications Advising Group also includes the newly created position of Social Media and Email Marketing Specialist. Stephanie Hatch (hatch_s at mit.edu<mailto:hatch_s at mit.edu>) from the School of Architecture and Planning was hired for this role. Stephanie is available to provide consultation on social media strategy and needs, and assistance developing email marketing strategy and design. She will also coordinate the Social Media Working Group starting in January.
-In-house design consultation, graphic design and digital printing
In the coming months, will be working to elevate the services provided by the MIT CopyTech Centers. We recently hired a new Design Advisor, Mike Healy (mhealy at mit.edu<mailto:mhealy at mit.edu>), who is available to provide basic graphic design services for select projects, including brochures, postcards, posters, etc. This is a fee-based service with competitive pricing for the MIT community.
CPS will also continue to manage other communications resources such as the graphic identity web site, the ECAT online stationary ordering system, the photo library, the Communicators Toolkit site, and the Communications Workshops series.
Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions about CPS. We look forward to working with you on upcoming projects.
Best regards,
Danyel
