MIT EDITORS' CLUB
*Meeting Notes from November 16, 2010*
*Communicators Toolkit*
About 25 Editors attended this meeting to learn more about the Communicators Toolkit <http://commtoolkit.mit.edu>, a new web site for MIT staff whose jobs involve communications that, for the first time, aggregates MIT communications resources and information in one location.
Bara Blender of the Publishing Services Bureau walked us through the site, which covers a wide range of topics, from Professional Development to MIT Standards (like the Institute's graphic identity and style sheets).
Bara stressed the interactive nature of the site. Through the Idea Exchange, for example, you can ask a question about MIT communications and/or comment on others' responses. To that end, make sure to create a personal profile. It's easy, and among other things allows us to network to find colleagues who are experts in a variety of areas (e.g., photography, social media, public relations). As Monica Lee, director of the PSB, pointed out, interacting with the site will keep it alive and growing.
Over time, the Communicators Toolkit should become an ever more valuable resource. That's because the site is searchable, and will automatically archive all discussions initiated through it.
Someone asked Monica if she knew how many communicators are on campus. Her estimate: 200-500 (that includes folks who are indeed doing communications but whose job titles don't necessarily reflect that). That's a LOT of us!
*Thank You, PSB!*
Thanks to the PSB, developer of the Communicators Toolkit, which hosted this meeting in Building E38.
