To MIT editors:
I have been doing some copy editing for a graduate student in Civil &
Environmental Engineering who is getting ready to submit his thesis. After I
finished editing his chapters the other day, he asked whether I could help him
with formatting his document. Specifically, he asked: "I was wondering if you
can give me a quick tutorial on using the new Word (2007) in writing a thesis.
it would be a great help and time saver if I can learn from you how to combine
main and sub documents and create table of contents and list of figures from
sub documents."
I have no idea how to do these things. If anyone can give him a tutorial about
how to do the things he needs to do, can you please contact him? He may be
interested in having someone actually do the formatting instead of teaching
him how to do it: I'm not sure. I do know that he is very pressed for time:
he's already past his deadline. His name is Sherif Akl and his e-mail address
is saakl at mit.edu.
I don't really know him, but he seems like a nice guy. I met him fleetingly a
few times at the Writing Center when he came in to meet with another
consultant. If you need to know more I will try to provide answers, but it's
probably best to contact Sherif directly.
Thanks,
Pamela
