Just to back up what Stephanie is saying, Facebook has to have
language like this simply in order for taken-for-granted Facebook
functions to work. Without that language, other users wouldn't be able
to link to your content in most cases.
For example, if Arts at MIT posted its announcement about Gustavo
Dudalmel on its Facebook page and used a photo, this language allows
another user to post a status update saying "Awesome! Go Arts at MIT!"
with that same photo automatically showing up below it.
