Dear colleagues,

What does it mean to think, act and design “green?” Join us on March
26 for “A Vertable Feast” of information, where you’ll learn how to
consider environmental choices when planning and creating publications.

There’s still time to register! The seminar runs a full day, but feel
free to attend just the sessions that most appeal to you.

Date: Wednesday, March 26
Time: 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.; lunch is included
Location: To be provided with registration confirmation

In the morning, we’ll learn from Don Carli, an internationally known
expert on sustainable communications, and Aaris Sherin, author of an
upcoming book on adopting sustainable design solutions.

Our first two sessions are detailed below. For full program details
and to register, visit http://web.mit.edu/commworkshops/032608/
vertable_sc.html.

Redefining Green
Don Carli, Institute for Sustainable Communication

The meaning of “green” is undergoing a widespread transformation that
has profound implications for all communications professionals,
including designers and print buyers. The “new green” is based on a
conceptual framework called sustainability. Don will provide an
overview of the issues you need to consider and the steps you can
take to address the challenges of sustainability and climate change
in the design and production of print and digital media.

Ready, Set, Go Green
Aaris Sherin, St. John’s University

Aaris will demystify the processes and methodology needed to achieve
sustainable design solutions and provide a practical framework from
which to approach eco-friendly production. No longer a fringe market,
sustainable design is now driven by economics as well as ethics.
Aaris will describe how innovations in production processes and
materials have meant that responsibly produced graphic design doesn’t
have to compromise its visual aesthetic nor does it have to cost
substantially more. Case studies and real-world examples will
illustrate how graphic designers can make the same great work and
still work sustainably.
