I hope the group won't mind my sending a
'save-the-date' email for a high-profile event at
Kresge Auditorium the morning of Saturday, May
14. The BBC and WBUR will tape broadcasts on the
important topic of forced labor. So: fun and
serious and the same time.

If you know of groups or individuals who might be
interested, my colleagues and I at the Center for
International Studies would appreciate your
forwarding the announcement to them. Naturally,
we welcome coverage by one and all, as well.

Many thanks.

____________

Though many of us would like to think of slavery
as a practice of the past, the unfortunate
reality is that millions of people are still
victims of forced labor, enforced prostitution
and human trafficking. Despite the seriousness of
this problem, it is the focus of insufficient
public policy and media attention.

This event is designed to shine increase
awareness about forced labor in the global
economy, and will occur shortly after the release
of a major report on the topic by the
International Labor Organization.

The event will feature the taping of panel
discussions by BBC Television's "The World
Debate" and National Public Radio's "On Point"
(produced by WBUR/Boston) and will be held at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Kresge
Auditorium.

The BBC World Debate, hosted by Zeinab Badawi, is
distributed worldwide to 275 million homes. On
Point is hosted by Tom Ashbrook, a former deputy
managing editor of the Boston Globe, and is
distributed to NPR stations across the United
States.

The panelists will include:

Kevin Bales
