Dear ECCO team,
I’m thinking of using ECCO to study ocean heat and salt budgets, and I’d like to start with the most recent version. I’ve used ECCO V4r4 before, in our study of the drivers of marine heatwaves: Sala et al. (2025), “Leading dynamical processes of global marine heatwaves in an ocean state estimate,” Ocean Science (https://os.copernicus.org/articles/21/2463/2025/).
I have a few general questions about V4r5:
1. Is V4r5 the version you’d recommend for new work, or is V4r4 still the standard?
2. What’s the best way to access the V4r5 output? I’ve only found it on the AWS requester-pays bucket (s3://ecco-model-granules), not on PO.DAAC.
3. What period does V4r5 cover, and is there a reference or documentation I should cite?
4. Is a newer release expected soon?
Thank you for your help!
Best regards,
Jacopo Sala
