Dear all,

The advert for the SNAP-DRAGON 3-year Oxford PDRA has just gone live, and I’d be really grateful for your help in promoting it. Please can you forward the details below around your networks, and directly to any promising candidates?

Looking forward to seeing many of you virtually next Friday (4th) at 4pm!

All the best,
Helen

PDRA in Ocean Modelling
University of Oxford
SNAP-DRAGON project (Subpolar North Atlantic Processes - Dynamics and pRedictability of vAriability in Gyre and OverturNing)
3 years

We are looking for a postdoctoral research assistant to carry out and interpret high-resolution numerical model sensitivity experiments of the subpolar North Atlantic Ocean. The postholder will work closely with UK and US researchers within the NERC-NSF funded SNAP-DRAGON project to determine the causes of subpolar ocean variability.

The subpolar North Atlantic Ocean occupies a key role in regional and global climate, yet is poorly represented in climate models, which limits our confidence in predictions. SNAP-DRAGON will bring recent OSNAP and other observations together with numerical models in a range of innovative ways to produce a step change in our understanding of the causes of subpolar ocean variability.

The successful candidate for this particular post will be responsible for setting up, running and analysing the results of high-resolution numerical model simulations using the Massachusetts Institute of Technology general circulation model (MITgcm). For further details, full job description, and to apply, please see:

This post is fixed term for 3 years from 01 November 2020 (or as soon as possible after). Candidates should apply online by midday Friday 02 October 2020. The vacancy ID is 147343. Interviews will be held in early October. Informal enquiries should be directed to Helen Johnson (helen.johnson at earth.ox.ac.uk<mailto:helen.johnson at earth.ox.ac.uk>) or David Marshall (david.marshall at physics.ox.ac.uk<mailto:david.marshall at physics.ox.ac.uk>). Further SNAP-DRAGON PDRA positions at the University of Liverpool and the University of Reading will be advertized in due course.
