[ecco-support] [EXTERNAL] Request for a specific configuration of ECCOv4

Hi Dan,

We have a flux-forced configuration for ECCO V4 Release 4 that I’ll make available in a week or so. This configuration reads in the pre-computed v4r4 forcing from files, as opposed to using the bulk formulae. Net heat flux, wind stress, freshwater flux and a few others are part of the control variables.

If you were to find a flux-forced configuration for ECCO V4 Release 3, it is available at https://github.com/owang01/ECCO-v4-Configurations/tree/master/devel/fluxforced/.

I also plan to make a tutorial for doing an adjoint reconstruction using the adjoint sensitivity. This tutorial will be provided as a Jupyter notebook.

Best,
Ou

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [ecco-support] Request for a specific configuration of ECCOv4

Hello,

Is there an ECCOv4 configuration/solution that avoids using the bulk formulae? That is, a solution that uses net heat flux as a control variable?

For context: I would like to attempt an adjoint reconstruction using net heat flux and wind stress. However, if we use the bulk formulae, there is a risk of double-counting (as pointed out by Yavor Kostov). Gael Forget suggested that avoiding the bulk formulae altogether could be a promising way to start.

Thanks for any help/guidance you can provide.

Many thanks,
Dan
