The monthly means are real monthly means based on calendar months.

What method is used to create those monthly means - real monthly means based on calendar months? or monthly means based on equal length "months" such as 30.5 days? or other?

Thanks,
Diana

Hi Diana,

There are only 8732 daily sladiff output for the model integration period from 1992 through 2015, because the model does not output sladiff for the first and last 17 days. A moving averaging with a window of 35 days has been applied to the lsc SSH fields; 17 days is half of the time window. By the way, there are 8766 days from 1992 through 2015.

There are no monthly ssh misfit output. However, m_etamon.0000000059.data in the same directory is the model monthly SSH with sea-ice load and Greatbatch corrections.

Subject: Re: [ecco-support] Altimetry misfit files?

Ou,
Thank you for the sladiff file locations.

I see that the sladiff files are all daily o/p (8732 daily records, where a full 24 years would be 8760 days - I assume the final year 2015 is missing December?).

Is there any monthly ssh misfit o/p?

Thanks,
Diana

Diana,

The misfit files for SSH anomaly are the following in the same directory, where sladiff_ers_raw.data, sladiff_gfo_raw.data, and sladiff_tp_raw.data are the misfit of point wise ssh anomaly between model and one of the three altimetry datasets. The misfit for combined (of the three altimetry datasets) point wise ssh anomaly is sladiff_raw.data. The misfit for large-scale SSH anomaly is sladiff_smooth.data, while sladiff_subsample.data is just a subsample of sladiff_smooth.data and is used to compute the lsc SSH cost.

Checking h8_i48 model output at MIT at:
/net/barents/raid14/heimbach/ecco/version4/release3/h8_i48/barfiles

I see misfit_salt.data, misfit_theta.data, and others, but not misfit_etan.data
Have these misfits been saved elsewhere, perhaps under a different name?

Thanks,
Diana Spiegel
