Howdy beloved dorm resident,
We hope you’ve been having a great first few weeks of the semester! We want
to make sure you know all about 🦈 DormCon 🦈 and the resources we provide
as your friendly neighborhood student government.
WHAT IS 🦈 DORMCON 🦈?
Dormitory Council, lovingly called 🦈 DormCon 🦈, is a student government
that presides over the 11 undergraduate residence halls at MIT. We deal
with issues pertaining to student life in dorms and we strive to elevate
student concerns or ideas to administration. You’ve probably seen us in
action through the Pods Program, CPW & REX, S’more Welcome, or SYRE!
You’re getting this email through dorms@, a mailing list for all dorm
residents that only DormCon can use. We promise to keep this list
low-traffic and focused on important updates -- so please read our emails!
RESOURCES
DormCon is here to help you! We can assist with issues including but not
limited to:
-
Questions about the housing process
-
Dining feedback
-
Event funding (e.g. campus-wide parties and formals, Next Haunt, Bad
Ideas Weekend)
-
Challenges getting your specific issues resolved with admin
Our resources include:
-
Website: See our previous meeting minutes and other relevant information
at dormcon.mit.edu!
-
Piazza: Wish you had one place to go to ask questions about housing,
dining, or dorm event funding? Well now you do! Join the DormCon Piazza at
piazza.com/mit/fall2021/dormcon. It’s not always easy to find up-to-date
dorm information; we hope this Piazza can be a central resource for info.
We’ll do our best to help you out, whether by providing the answer,
directing you to a specific website, reaching out to an MIT admin on your
behalf, or whatever else.
-
DormCon General Body Meetings (GBMs): The most direct way to stay
updated on the latest DormCon issues and participate in discussion is our
biweekly general body meeting. DormCon GBMs are open to all dorm
residents and happen on alternate Thursdays 7:00-8:30 PM (see schedule
below for dates and locations for the rest of the semester). These meetings
are where residents propose policies and programs that affect and benefit
the entire dormitory system. And you get free dinner!
