Hi everyone,

As you may or may not know, MIT is planning on building a new dorm on West
Campus by 2019. *If you're interested in getting detailed updates over the
coming months about the planning process or joining the conversation about
this, add yourself to dorm-of-the-future at mit.edu
<https://groups.mit.edu/webmoira/list/dorm-of-the-future>.*

To give you a sense of where the process is right now, a group of students
(cc'd here) and administrators has just been formed to create a document
that describes the general architectural principles of an MIT undergraduate
dorm. This document will hopefully inform not only this next dorm, but many
future dorms and dorm renovations as well (potentially including any
changes that end up happening in New House).

We'll be drawing on previous work such as the MetX committee findings and
the SHAC (Student Housing Advisory Committee) talking tour, but we would
also greatly appreciate your feedback and discussions, so we will be
sending drafts and topics for discussion to the mailing list above over the
next few weeks. The first draft of the document (in powerpoint form) is
attached here. The document will be finalized by September 15th and we'll
do our best to incorporate any feedback we receive before the 12th.

Best,
Kate Farris
DormCon President
