*Event #1*

Topic: Innovative Approaches in China's May 12 Mega Earthquake Policy
Process: Two Cases

Speakers:

   - Xiulan Zhang, Dean of School of Social Development and Public Policy at
   Beijing Normal University. Recently, she started a major program related to
   the Sichuan earthquake, and her school had one of the first teams on the
   ground after the earthquake. Her task force was charged with providing
   immediate assistance, and more broadly with making critical policy
   recommendations to the government on humanitarian aid, short and long term
   relocation, community and economic redevelopment. She is the Chair of the
   Joint Earthquake Policy Expert Committee of the National Disaster Reduction
   Commission and the Ministry of Sciences and Technology.
   - Qiang Zhang, Research Professor of School of Social Development and
   Public Policy at Beijing Normal University. Director of Center of Emergency
   Management and Social Innovations and Director of the Policy Research Center
   for Disaster Reduction and Emergency Management Policy in Ministries of
   Civil Affairs and Education.
   - Huan Zhang, Associate Professor of School of Social Development and
   Public Policy at Beijing Normal University, Editor of the China Emergency
   Management.
