FYI
Hi, all:
I want to bring to your attention a forum for China-related talks, sponsored by
MIT. The China Forum is part of a broader MIT effort being formulated by the
China Strategy Working Group, which has been charged by central administration
to look at new ways of fostering ties with China and to identify new
initiatives and collaborations that MIT might launch with China in the coming
years. It is composed of faculty and staff with interests in and knowledge of
greater China. I am the chair of the working group.
We have decided to start the China Forum, with the blessings of President
Hockfield, in order to raise awareness of China on campus. The Institute-level
forum will invite prominent guests from government, academic, and industrial
sectors to visit MIT. They will give public speeches on topics of general
interest, meet with senior officials, conduct round table discussions comparing
and contrasting Chinese and western methodology/approach/ problems, etc. Our
hope is that this forum will be a convening point for our faculty and students
regarding the shaping of our China Strategy, and will extend MIT's reach in
China.
The first speaker for the China Forum will be Prof. Yingyi Qian (see attached
announcement). This talk will be publicized on the Tech Talk this week, as
well as Dome View. However, I hope you can help to publicize it among Chinese
students, as I would like to have a great turn out for it. Thanx in advance.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Victor
