Dear all;
You probably have heard about the "South Asia Earthquake and Tsunami"
recently, which cause a lot of damage and loss of lives. The
American Red Cross has set up a means to raise donations on line. If you
would like to give a hand on that, please visit:
www.bostonredcross.org
For details, please check the email below. Thanks,

Subject: Need your help!

Dear Friends,
I am sure you have all seen the devastation in Sri Lanka, my native country,
on the news by now. Over 25,000 confirmed dead, thousands more missing, and
more than a million people (over 5% of the country's population) rendered
homeless in less than 15 minutes-and that's just in Sri Lanka. The
devastation in Indonesia, and other countries in the region, is similar.
I just found out that my cousin's wife lost her entire extended family. They
were on a family vacation. He and his wife are in shock, after pouring
through corpses all day trying to find their relatives. They are not among
the dead; they are just a few of the missing. There are tens of thousands
like them. The human dimension of this tragedy is hard to fathom.
The millions of men women and children weeping hopelessly at this very
moment desperately need your support. Please do not look away. I hope you
find it in your hearts to give at least a little to help them through this
difficult time. It will only take two minutes of your time. Every dollar
counts.
The American Red Cross has set up a means to track the contributions raised
through this Harvard community effort. Donations can be made online, and are
tax deductable.
Please visit:
www.bostonredcross.org
On the donations screen, please select "South Asia Earthquake and Tsunami"
under designation, and "Harvard Community Tsunami Relief Effort" under
source.
I know there are tons of charities out there. I recommend giving directly to
the Red Cross, primarily because emergency relief is their core competence,
and they are the front line in the effort to help those affected. They are
politically neutral, have the capacity and infrastructure to get resources
mobilized faster than anyone else, have a volunteer to paid worker ratio of
40:1, and they help all victims free of charge. Basically, giving directly
to the Red Cross is the fastest and most efficient way to get help to those
who urgently need it.
Please pass this request on to as many people as you can. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Nayana
