Andres,
Can you please update the Google document (including the use case diagram) accordingly with the server-to-doctor information flow? Thanks!
  Leo

sms stuff:

looks like because of the "sender pays" pricing system in zambia, it's not as easy to just send via email. i'll look into seeing if that's doable.

Do we even know if Celtel provides has an SMS gateway and if it is accessible via email (like in the US)?

hey all, just an update on the MMS front...it looks like it may be a bit more trouble than its worth in the short term...another moving part that can go wrong in the time we have. There are a few open source tools/gateways available to do MMS over GPRS (as that's the MM1 protocol), and i'm sure it won't be too difficult to implement. It would involve making a gateway to interface with the local (tmobile or celtel's) WAP/MMS gateway to package and transmit it to the recipients' phones. I don't think we lose that much generality if we just send an sms with a url link for viewage.

for the cidrz visit to bosotn, it will be May 28th, not april or march. I wonder if they were possibly mistaken on that end too, let me confirm.

  Hi Leo,

do you mean may or april 28th? We'll have to check with Jhnoatan about the money - I don't see why not - this would be a great thing for the class to carry on sponsoring.

    Things to be done:
  1. data management at server-end (LAMP?) (Andres to work with Adam Marcus from IRD)
  2. interface at server-end that displays patient id, image with date and time stamp, clinical
information transmitted with image, text box for doctor to enter comments, text box for
possible comments after QA/QI discussion (Andres)
  3. application that would send the image plus the clinic phone number from the server to
       the doctor in Lusaka (Daniel)
  4. expand workflow portion of the Google document to include all the details we've
       discussed (Leo)
  5. expand background to include applications already in use using cell phone for medical
       consultation (Leo)
  6. create section of how this application can be applied more widely in medicine, and how
it is better than the current applications in that data archival allows for follow-up,
       QA/QI, outcomes tracking (Leo)
Next meeting is on April 28 (Monday) at 2 PM at Media Lab. All the above should theoretically be completed by then. The last week should be for final touches, e.g. improving the appearance of the interfaces, preparation of powerpoint presentation, making of the video for the demo.
The demo video will be filmed on May 4, a week from Sunday, at 12 noon, also at the Media Lab.
Leo, Gari and Daniel Myung to meet with Dr. Parham from CIDRZ on May 28 at 1 PM at the Dimagi office. (Daniel, have we confirmed this time?)
Plans for Andres and Leo to go to Zambia early or middle part of June. (Where would the funding come from? Gari, can we still use the money from class that we didn't get to use or is that forfeited when the semester is over?) Definite agenda is necessary to optimize time in Zambia.
