Interested in a job in the MIT Office of Minority Education (OME) as an Interphase EDGE/x Residential Facilitator?
We are looking for currently enrolled undergraduate, upper-division students at MIT to work with the Interphase EDGE/x program this summer. The role of Interphase EDGE/x Residential Facilitator (RFA) is an 9-week position during the summer, during which one week is for training and eight are for teaching. The RFAs will foster a sense of community and belonging, introduce students to key concepts, problem solving, and study skills to help them prepare for academics at MIT, introduce students to MIT offices/resources and aid in their understanding of services at MIT, build a strong support network with students before the beginning of their first year, and support students’ exploration of the surrounding Boston area to make MIT feel like home.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Helping incoming MIT first year students to master problem-solving techniques, enhancing scholars’ oral and written communication skills, teaching scholars about Institute resources critical to success at MIT, cultivating peer, staff, and faculty relationships as well as a network of support, develop scholars’ academic, leadership, interpersonal, and professional skills, leading weekly recitations, holding office hours, being available to schedule one-on-one in-person or Zoom meetings upon request, reviewing class material, assisting with non-academic workshops throughout the summer.
Hours:
Fulltime, includes 7-day training period and 8-week program
Pay rate:
$3,200 for RFAs working with Interphase EDGE
$4,200 for RFAs working with Interphase EDGE and Interphase EDGEx
Qualities needed:
Must have completed particular class(es) and received an “A” for subject(s) seeking to tutor, experience in tutoring and/or mentoring students preferred, experience in and/or desire to work with students of diverse backgrounds, exhibit excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality, exhibit appropriate and professional behavior at all times
