New Spring 2021 undergraduate class: IDS.S01, Special Subject: Energy Systems and Climate Change Mitigation
Want to improve your knowledge of the innovation challenges and opportunities in clean energy? Interested in learning about how to evaluate proposed solutions to the climate crisis?
Please consider registering for IDS.S01 this Spring! This special class, taught by Professor Jessika Trancik, is the undergraduate version of IDS.521, Energy Systems and Climate Change Mitigation. It is being offered virtually and meets with the graduate class, IDS.521, T Th 11am – 12:30pm. Here are the details:
IDS.S01 Special Subject: Energy Systems and Climate Change Mitigation
______
Undergraduate (Spring 2021)
Prereq: Permission of instructor
Units: 3-0-9
Letter grading
Lecture: T Th 11am – 12:30pm (Virtual)
______
Undergraduate version of IDS.521. Reviews the contributions of energy systems to global greenhouse gas emissions, and the levers for reducing those emissions. Lectures and projects focus on evaluating energy systems against climate policy goals, using performance metrics such as cost, carbon intensity, and others. Student projects explore pathways for realizing emissions reduction scenarios. Projects address the climate change mitigation potential of energy technologies (hardware and software), technological and behavioral change trajectories, and technology and policy portfolios. Meets with IDS.521. Students taking the graduate version complete additional assignments and explore the subject in greater depth.
