LEARN ADVANCED TOPICS IN BIOTECHNOLOGY AND DEVELOP IMPORTANT TEACHING SKILLS

For the past five years Professors Jianzhu Chen and Harvey Lodish have taught an advanced undergraduate seminar course, 7.371, Biological and Engineering Principles Underlying Novel Biotherapeutics, to a small group of 3rd and 4th year undergraduate Biology and Biological Engineering students. We are looking for a senior/graduate student/postdoc who can assist us with this seminar course this coming fall term and serve as a third course instructor, in exchange to learn advanced topics in biotechnology and develop important teaching skills.

[cid:clip_image002.png]Classes include lectures, but mainly focus on discussion of current research and clinical papers. Class meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00 to 5:00.

Topics covered include:

• Production of recombinant proteins and antibodies
• Antibody therapeutics and monoclonal - drug conjugates
• Gene therapies using retrovirus and AAV vectors
• Oligonucleotides as therapeutics
• Cancer immunotherapies, including checkpoint inhibitors
• Manipulating immune effector cells
• CAR-T cells
• Cancer vaccines
• Generation of insulin- producing cells from ES and iPS stem cells.

Responsibilities include monitoring class participation by the students, leading one or two classes on topics of your choice, and working with students as they formulate their term paper – the latter either an NIH- format grant application or a business plan.
