Project Title: Telemedicine/Digital Health: Technical, Legal, Policy, and Strategy Issues
Project Description:
Immediate opportunities for UROP (for pay or credit) exist for multiple students from MIT, Harvard, and Wellesley, and graduate students (for thesis/credit) to work on Technical, Legal, Policy, or Strategy Issues related to the development and deployment of evolving Telemedicine and Telehealth approaches. Areas of immediate interest include:
* 1. Fostering new telemedicine laws and regulations that transcend state and national boundaries based on researching recent developments in these areas;
* 2. Designing, developing, and implementing a prototype system that incorporates innovative IT-based approaches for ensuring quality, possibly by building upon the foundation of the Jeanne Clery Act and incorporating evolving IT approaches for concurrent authentication and anonymity;
* 3. Surmounting the existing barriers to healthcare IT interoperability across organization and domain boundaries.

Contact: Positions are available for pay, credit, thesis, or independent study. Funding for UROP work beginning now and over IAP available for students from MIT, Harvard, and Wellesley. Undergraduate students from MIT can seek funding from UROP for continued work over spring. Interested applicants should submit a short description of their background and experience to Dr. Amar Gupta, Lead Researcher (agupta at mit.edu<mailto:agupta at mit.edu>) and Katherine Young, Graduate Student (kayoung at mit.edu<mailto:kayoung at mit.edu>). Please include the mode in which you want to get involved, the preferred number of hours you would like to devote each week to this activity during fall and over IAP, and highlight directly relevant courses you may have taken (such as Telemedicine and Telehealth for Global Health course, HST.S58/6.884).
