I graduated from course 7 in 2017, and am now working on a clinical and research team in Fiji. We are now looking for the two individuals with research experience.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone interested in global medicine and/or public health. We have conducted multiple clinical and basic research studies on Chlamydia trachomatis sexually transmitted infections (STI) in various third world countries and have just commenced a study in Fiji. Our clinical work is in STI clinics in collaboration with the Fiji Ministry of Health to determine the incidence and prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae infections and risk factors for transmission of these infections to develop strategies for control. We are finding rates as high as 30% and 13%, respectively. We are also comparing a novel point-of-care (POC) diagnostic with a commercial nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) for these two pathogens. One volunteer position (housing and flights provided) is for lab work done in Fiji with exposure to the clinical side of the study starting in June, 2018. The other is for a research position at Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute, analyzing clinical samples gathered in Fiji, starting June 2018.

For interested individuals, please send your resume to Dr. Deborah Dean at ddean at chori.org<mailto:ddean at chori.org> and a statement about why this opportunity is of interest to you.

For more information about the study (casually), feel free to reach out to me at sgoemans96 at gmail.com<mailto:sgoemans96 at gmail.com>.

Thank you so much,
Sophie
