Exploring Careers in Patent Law
Monday, March 9, 5:30-7:00pm
Learn from professionals working in patent law about careers that let you stay abreast of the newest technologies. By working in the field of intellectual property, you can make a career of patenting, protecting, licensing, and valuing the most recent technological discoveries! Topics discussed will include an overview of intellectual property rights available to inventors, a day-in-the-life of patent attorneys, and a discussion of how intellectual property rights are protected in the realms of academia and industry.

Exploring Careers in Public Service
Tuesday, March 10, 5:30-6:30pm
Do you want to have an interesting job while also working for the common good? Is public service something you’ve been drawn to but aren’t sure how to translate that into a career? Come to this panel to hear directly from professionals on how they got their start, what their day to day work is like, and the advantages and disadvantages of working in a public service career.

Exploring Careers in Big Data
Wednesday, March 11, 5:00-6:00pm
Big Data has been described as “techniques for organizing and making sense of the huge amounts of information generated by Web users and networked sensors” (MIT News, 5/31/12).  At our GECD Big Data Careers panel, alumni and representatives from different industries will talk about the way their company is using big data techniques, and the career paths opening up in this burgeoning field.

Exploring Careers in Product Design
Thursday, March 12, 5:30-6:30pm
Are you interested in using your skills and abilities to develop and design today’s most innovative products? Come learn from MIT alumni working in Product Design and Development. Panelist will share their own unique career trajectory, highlights about the different ways of getting into the industry, and tips on what skills and experience the industry is seeking.



DID YOU KNOW?

Career Services drop-in hours are every Monday through Friday (except institute holidays) from 11am to 3pm.  Drop-ins are available to current MIT students and recent alumni (alumni who have graduated within the last 18 months). Drop-ins are 15-20 minute meetings with GECD staff members that don’t require an appointment.  We can help you with quick career-related questions and the critique of resumes, and cover letters.

Drop-ins end promptly at 3:00pm. Students must arrive by 2:45pm.
