Subject: 15.S16 Building Successful Careers and Organizations, Spring 2016 (H1) and 15.141J, Economics of the Health Care Industries

Two courses to consider for the Spring.

Let me bring to your attention the course I will be teaching next semester during H1 (Spring 2016) titled 15.S16 Building Successful Careers and Organizations. I am Emilio J. Castilla, a faculty member at Sloan. My research and teaching interests include people analytics, talent management, and strategic implementation.

I am excited about this course and I have designed a great schedule for you. The first class is on Thursday February 4, 2016 and will meet every Thursday during H1 in the Spring (six 3-hour sessions, total). This course is specifically designed to help you learn more about your individual strengths, and how you can utilize these strengths to manage your own career and professional growth. We will draw on the latest research and practices, experiential exercises, and cases studies – all with the goal of helping you deepen your understanding of the forces and dynamics that shape careers. In so doing, we will cover the most important aspects of talent (and career) management. We start the course by covering the basic tools and principles to help you learn about who you are, where you are going, and how to successfully decide what to do career-wise. We next focus on how to apply those basic tools and principles to the process of job searching and to designing and developing your career. Finally, we examine how by building a successful career, you can also contribute to managing successful teams and organizations.

This course will prove to be helpful to you in the short and long run —when you either will be job hunting, thinking about changing careers, or managing your own company or group of employees. If you have any questions please feel free to email me atecastilla at mit.edu<mailto:ecastilla at mit.edu>, call me at (617) 253-0286 or drop by my office at E62-332!

I look forward to seeing you in class next semester!
Professor Castilla
