Negotiating Job Offers
Monday, Oct 6, 2:00-3:00pm
The Negotiating Job Offers workshop presented by Colin Smith will examine the many variables that exist during the evaluation and negotiation process of Job Offers. Knowing how, when and why you should negotiate will be reviewed. Salary vs. Total Compensation will be examined. Strategies on the negotiation process will be discussed along with “Should You Negotiate?” and "What Can" and "What Can Not" be negotiated. These strategies can be used throughout your career. The Art of Behavioral Interviewing
Tuesday, Oct 7, 3:00-4:30pm
While your technical skills will get you the interview, it is your behavioral attributes that will get you the job. This session presented by Bob Dolan will discuss preparation and strategies for a successful interview. In addition, sample behavioral interview questions will be provided along with tips on how to answer these tough questions. All GECD events are open to MIT undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and alumni. Advanced registration requested via CareerBridge: https://www.myinterfase.com/mit/student
Writing Compelling Cover Letters
Wednesday, Oct 8, 1:00-2:00pm
This workshop presented by Christina Henry will teach attendees how to craft a strategic cover letter. Participants should bring a job description they want to apply for to aid in the drafting of an effective cover letter. General information on cover letters will also be discussed. All GECD events are open to MIT undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and alumni. Advanced registration requested via CareerBridge: https://www.myinterfase.com/mit/student
Off the Record: Tech Recruiting with A9
Wednesday, Oct 8, 3:00-4:30pm
Join us for an off-the-record conversation with a Silicon Valley Tech Recruiter. Sometimes students are at a disadvantage by not understanding the campus recruitment process from an employer's perspective. The talk will be geared towards explaining how recruitment across the tech industry works, while revealing common misconceptions that students have about the hiring process. The goal is for students to walk away from the talk with immediate action items that they can apply to their own job search now or in the future. The event will be 45 minutes of interactive conversation and then open Q&A. All GECD events are open to MIT undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and alumni.
Advanced registration requested via CareerBridge: https://www.myinterfase.com/mit/student

Peer Mock Interviews (Small Group)
Thursday, Oct 9, 2:30-3:30pm
In this small group workshop, students will have a unique chance to practice and sharpen their interview skills. We will briefly review interviewing wisdom, discuss the art of giving and receiving feedback, then all participants will have a chance to answer questions and get feedback on their responses. Students who participate should first attend one of our in-person interviewing workshops or listen to our online workshop, Effective Interviewing, at http://gecd.mit.edu/workshop/interviewing/index.htm. Registration for this workshop will be open on Sept 25. Limited to 18. Drop-ins may be able to attend.
