Subject: NEW System Biology Graduate Program
Dear Department Chairs and Colleagues:
I am writing to ask for your help in disseminating information on a new graduate PhD program being initiated in the area of Systems Biology in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. I attach a PDF flyer that provides some basic information on important features of this new graduate program. A key objective of this new graduate program is the training of students in the use of quantitative methods for systems level analysis of big data in broad areas of biomedical research. Some key features of this graduate program include interdisciplinary co-mentoring of students, 6-month internship experience in a computational/clinical/industry setting, and foundations course with hands on experience in big data analysis.
This is an accelerated 4-year PhD program intended for highly motivated students with a strong quantitative background and with an interest in incorporating systems approaches in their graduate training. Students graduating from this Systems Biology Training Program will be highly competitive for leadership positions in the academic and private sector, as rapid technological advancements continue to expand the acquisition of large datasets requiring systems level analysis to gain novel insights into biological processes and mechanisms of disease pathogenesis.
I hope you will share this information with students you feel may be strong candidates for this graduate program. We are now recruiting students for the fall of 2015, with applicant interviews scheduled for February 2015. More information on this Integrative Systems Biology graduate program is available at the website: www.isb.pitt.edu<http://www.isb.pitt.edu/> I am also happy to answer any questions you or the students may have, so please feel free to email me directly.
Many thanks for your help, and I wish you a very Happy Holiday!
Best regards
Cecilia Lo
