Research Technician II

The Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Human Genetic Research/Harvard Medical School is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a Research Technician II position to study the neurobiology of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder using human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). The overall goal is to discover cellular signatures for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in iPSC-derived neurons using phenotypic and gene expression studies. Signature-based high-throughput screens will then be used to identify novel small molecule probes to investigate the disease biology of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and to provide leads for therapeutic development. The work involves generating and characterizing iPSCs from fibroblasts, differentiating iPSCs along neuronal lineages and developing image-based and gene-expression based assays to identify disease signatures. Prior work with human embryonic stem cells/iPS cells is an asset. Applicants should be familiar with molecular biology techniques (cloning, DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, RT-PCR, western blotting) and cell biology (cell culture, immunofluorescence) approaches. Responsibilities will include performing laboratory research and providing technical support for members of the lab. The project entails close collaboration with the Chemical Biology Program at the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT.

Qualifications: The applicant should have an interest in cellular and molecular neurobiology with laboratory experience including standard techniques and cell culture, and preferably good computer skills and experience with databases. The ideal candidate will possess excellent critical thinking and organizational skills, pays close attention to detail, is willing to learn, is comfortable carrying out his/her work independently and enjoys working in a team environment. Minimum degree and field of knowledge: BS/BA. A two-year commitment is preferred.

Interested candidates should submit their curriculum vitae and contact information to:
