UROP Project Opening: Enhancing Microfluidic Diagnostics Through
Stirring
Department: Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Biological
Engineering
Faculty Supervisor: Prof. Martin Bazant, Applied Mathematics
The Non-Linear Electrokinetics Group at MIT is looking to hire a UROP
in biology,
chemistry, chemical engineering, or biological engineering to assist
in developing experimental protocols and proofs-of-concept on the
benefits of
electrokinetic stirring in assays. Depending on the interests of the
student, research can include developing various chemistry platforms
for analyzing
binding of biological molecules in electrokinetic flows, analysis of
stirring for a particular diagnostic assay, or examining the effects
of various solutions and biological molecules on the resulting
electrokinetic flows.
We are particularly interested in an advanced undergraduate student
who can
carry out their own independent research program under the direction
of faculty and post-docs in the Non-Linear Electrokinetics Group.
Ideally, this position will start immediately and continue through
the Spring term, with the possibility for extension through the
Summer. It is expected that this research will result in academic
publications.
Contact: Please send a short CV to Jeremy Levitan, jlevitan at mit.edu
Please mention any laboratory or research experience with
diagnostics, assays, slide-based chemistries or electrokinetics when
applying.
