Hello everyone,

Next week PLS is excited to host Dr. Melinda Soares-Furtado from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She will be telling us about the search for transiting exosatellites, moons, and planets with the Roman telescope. See below for the abstract and additional information.

Dr. Soares-Furtado will be visiting all next week and is available for meetings Tuesday-Thursday. We’ll be sending out a signup sheet shortly.

For those attending in person, please complete this simple RSVP form<https://forms.gle/R22Rz4SeQ7NDk8Bp9> by 1 PM on Monday (4/18) so we can accurately gauge lunch demand.

Title: The Transiting Exosatellites, Moons, and Planets in Orion (TEMPO) Survey: Unveiling Young, Nearby Exosatellites with Roman

Abstract: In this talk, I will present the design considerations and wide-ranging science outcomes accompanying the proposed Transiting Exosatellites, Moons, and Planets in Orion (TEMPO) Survey. TEMPO would offer the community a 30-day time domain investigation of the young (1-3 Myr) Orion Nebula Cluster with the Roman Space Telescope. This survey is expected to unveil a population of young exosatellites, 50% of which are expected to be "super Titans" (Titan to Earth mass). In addition, these detections are expected to be extraordinarily different from the currently known exoplanets of similar mass, as theories predict that these targets should be in possession of significant H/He envelopes. Such a population would provide valuable constraints to theories of satellite formation and evolution, as well as offering much-needed constraints to the lower end of the initial mass function.
