Hey AAA,
We just heard of a very cool ESL teaching opportunity in chinatown. It's
run by Bo Han from Harvard, here's a short blurb:
We are mainly a weekend ESL class program, catered to teaching recent
Chinese immigrants English. We run *11AM-1PM every Saturday and Sunday for
8 weeks* (this semester, *we start on 2/11* running until 4/15, with 2
weeks off the weekend of 3/10 and 3/17 for our spring break) right *on
Harvard campus*. We have 5 levels of classes, with level 1 starting at the
most basic like alphabet, through level 5, focusing on conversation and
writing. Levels 1-3 are taught in both Cantonese and Mandarin, while level
4 and 5 requires no Chinese skills. Class sizes range from as little as 5-6
students to 25, depending on the level, and the age of the students range
from mid 30s to 80. We do hold one Intensive class during the weekday,
Monday, Wednesday, Friday (4PM-6PM) that covers materials in levels 1-3.
Curriculum textbooks are provided for each class.
They are looking for tutors to commit two hours per week for 8 weeks to
teach ESL to chinese immigrants. The application can be reached
*here<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?hl=en_US&formkey=dGhSaTNUc0plRzRrX0RlUjVCMUR5aVE6MA#gid=0>
* and we ask that they be submitted by *Saturday, February 4th, at noon*.
They will reimburse for transportation.
AAA exec is trying to get a group of people together to do this. If you're
interested, please fill out the form, and let aaa-exec at mit.edu know asap!
