Recruiting staff and faculty to speak at Pahoehoe for Professionals
Do you work on a public service project or social venture above and beyond what you do at MIT? Perhaps you started your own non-profit or social venture, are a passionate NGO board member, or an active local community organizer.
If so, come and share your passion at the IAP Pahoehoe!
What is it, you ask?
Literally, pahoehoe is a type of lava flow with a multitude of active, spreading, toes.
Figuratively, its an occasional series of events for the MIT community to share their socially-focused work and spread their ideas.
How does it work?
6 presenters prepare 10 slides that are displayed for 30 seconds perslide (in the manner of Pecha Kucha or Ignite). No bullet points. All pictures. Slides change automatically. The five minute presentations are informal, informative, and infectious (in a good way!).
This is a great opportunity to share your service passions with the MIT community, inspire others to get involved, and get friendly input on your work and plans.
If you're interested in presenting at the IAP Pahoehoe for staff and faculty or want to suggest an MIT colleague as a presenter, please let us know at http://bit.ly/vhoIOp

The 2011 MIT Giving Tree is here!
Brighten the holidays for a local child.
Please join your fellow MIT community members in supporting thisgreat MIT holiday tradition. Through the Giving Tree, you can donate gifts to children in the Boston and Cambridge area. Each year, over 300 MIT community members provide gifts to over 600 children affiliated with 12 local serviceagencies. Co-sponsored by the MIT Public Service Center and the PanhellenicAssociation and currently in its 20th year, the Giving Tree allows participants to choose specific gifts for specific children, making the gift-giving process a more personalized one for all.

Here's how to participate:
1.) Stop by the MIT Public Service Center (PSC) at 4-104 between November 21 and December 12 (Mon-Fri, 9am-4pm).
2.) Pick up a gift label for a child--or choose more than one!
3.) Purchase, wrap, and place the gift label on your gift, and return it to the PSC in 4-104 NO LATER than 10AM on Tuesday, December 13.

We will also gladly accept your monetary donation if you are unable to purchase a gift, but want to participate.
