About Baker-forum

Welcome to Baker Forum!!

Whether you are a member that has recently been added or an existing member, we have compiled a few resources here to make your Dormspamming experience go more smoothly. DormSpam is used for event postings, student sales, and club promotion. Due to it's nature as an open-to-students mailing forum, there is the potential to have political messaging.

How to Dormspam:
Full explanation here: https://how-to-dormspam.mit.edu/, but general rules:
  • Always include at the bottom of your email “bcc’ed to dorms, [color] for bc-talk” at the bottom of your email, replacing [color] with your own underwear (or themed) color (e.g., “bcc’ed to dorms, black for bc-talk”, but without the quotes). This will allow people to filter your dormspam.
  • Send to baker-forum@mit.edu DIRECTLY (baker and only baker, every other dorm you are sending to must be sent in a different email and bcc'ed)
    • Any emails to baker-forum not from someone that is already a member must first go through moderation (we check them as often as possible but there will still be a delay). If a student outside baker-forum wants an email to go through immediately they must email it to a baker resident and have that resident forward to baker-forum.

How to Filter:

  • In Outlook: Settings >> Mail >> Rules >> Add New Rule
  • In Gmail: Setting >> See All Settings >> Filters and Blocked Addresses >> Create New Filter
  • Create a dorm spam folder
  • Rule that works for me:
    • If the body of the message contains the words "for bc-talk" OR "for bc talk" OR "bcc to dorms" OR "bcc'ed to dorms" OR "bcced to dorms", move the message to folder 'Dorm Spam'

If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at baker-prez@mit.edu!!
