Training for Lectors, Altar Servers, and Extraordinary Ministers: Training sessions in the Chapel after Mass
TODAY, Sunday, September 16, following the 1:00 Mass (so starting around 2:15). Please contact Fr. Moloney
at catholic at mit.edu if you are interested or have any questions.

How does the Church think about secular politics? The Church is a community with supernatural origins
which is composed, at least partially, by people who live in this world and have to organize themselves into
societies and nations. Prof. Chad Pecknold of the Catholic University of America will be giving the first
Thomistic Institute lecture of the year, "Augustine's City of God and the Nature of Politics." Prof. Pecknold is the
author of Christianity and Politics: A Brief Guide to the History, and is a frequent commentator regarding the
intersection on Christianity and politics on television and print media. The talk will focus on the classic
statement of the relation of Church to the state as given by St. Augustine, and how that applies to politics today
right before the national midterm elections. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 5:30 pm in Room 1-190.

Grad Student Dinner after the TI Talk: Tuesday, 9/18 - after the TI Talk the grad students will pick
somewhere to go for dinner to hang out and discuss the talk. Questions? Email Aileen at amdevlin at mit.edu.
Trip to Six Flags New England: Saturday, Sept. 22. We will leave at 10:30 AM and will be back home at
around 9 PM. Tickets and bus transportation are free. Sign up in the back of the Chapel or email
catholic at mit.edu<mailto:catholic at mit.edu>.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) and Course in the Fundamentals of the Catholic Faith: Fr.
Moloney will be offering a class in the fundamentals of the Catholic faith that will cover everything from the
Trinity to Church history to the Sacraments, prayer, and the moral life. It is meant to be both a high-level
introduction to the faith appropriate for interested non-Catholics, and a serious review of the faith for those who
are Catholics. It is required for those who want to enter the Church. Classes will start in early October and run
for the rest of the year.

For those interested in becoming Catholic, being Baptized, receiving First Communion, or
being Confirmed, come to a meeting on Sunday, September 30, at 2:45 PM in the Small Dining Room of W11.
We will discuss the process of receiving these sacraments and coordinate future meetings. Bring a sponsor or
friend if you'd like. Please reach out to Fr. Moloney to set up a time to talk individually (dmoloney at mit.edu<mailto:dmoloney at mit.edu>).

Register for TCC: Be sure to register for the TCC, so that you can be on the email lists and find out
about opportunities to volunteer and grow in your faith. It takes less than a
